Free Angel Studios fights against the false promises of The Land of the Free. We explore the cultural “what ifs” and envision what true freedom actually feels like.

“When thinking about a name for this production company, I wanted to give Black people something to believe in. I wanted a name that’ll embody the fundamental root of our happiness. Of course, the first thing I thought was money, but there are a lot of people who have money and are miserable. Then, I realized that the root of our needs is freedom. We need to be free to do whatever we want, whenever we want. Freedom is the ownership of our time and ourselves. That’s what I want this company to represent.”

I ended it with ‘Angel’ because it’s another name for Black People. For generations, Black culture has been synonymous with violence and aggression. Identifying Black People as “Angel” is an attempt to show dualities within our people. An angel doesn’t have to be perfect and innocent. Angels are flawed, but they try the best they can within their circumstances. That’s the type of stories that I want to tell. I want to question the moral compass of right and wrong within our culture.”
